John 9:1-5
9:2—a peculiar question. The disciples had seen many miracles by Jesus, and they had never seen Jesus asking anybody about their sin before ministering to them.
*Be aware of where our thoughts are. Bring them to obedience.
*This version is often used to teach about the generational curse, which by itself is a wrong doctrine.
Exodus 20:3-6—“jealous God” the word for “jealous” is actually a positive one. V5: curse only applies to those who hate God.
Ezekiel 18:9-13—It is not God’s desire to punish everyone for their sin.
2 Peter 3:9—God does not desire anyone to perish in their sin.
John 9:2—it is often used by pastors to scare the congregation into a work mentality, believing they should use their good work to earn their healing. This denies the finished work of healing by Jesus.
John 9:3—Jesus clearly answered the question. (sickness is “baby death”; see Romans 5). The verse is used to teach about God’s sovereignty, which suggests God made this man blind. John 10:10 rebukes this idea as this contradicts God’s nature.
Note: In Greek, there is no punctuation system like the one in English. There should be a comma between 9:3 and 9:4, not a period.
God’s sovereignty is at work on earth only when a son of God manifests. God cannot make people sick so that we can heal them. This is not God.
Sovereignty is NOT the reason God makes somebody sick so that He can show forth His work.
9:4—Jesus knew His time was very short and that He knew what His work was.
Acts 10:38—Jesus knew His job, and He did it very well. As believers, Jesus is our example. Our time is short.

Colossians 1:15-16—All things were created by Jesus (also see Genesis 2:7). The blind man in John 9 appeared to miss some body part; Jesus was creating what the man was missing using clay and His saliva. Jesus functioned here in Father’s character. Jehovah Elohim = God the Eternal Creator.
